Dusty Strings
Dusty Strings is a beloved Fremont music store and performance venue that has served Seattle's folk and acoustic music community since 1979. Located at 3406 Fremont Avenue North, this unique establishment combines retail sales of acoustic instruments—particularly harps, hammered dulcimers, and folk instruments—with an intimate performance space that hosts concerts, workshops, and music lessons. The venue has become a cornerstone of Seattle's folk music scene, regularly hosting touring folk artists, local musicians, and educational events in a warm, welcoming atmosphere that celebrates traditional and contemporary acoustic music. Dusty Strings represents the intersection of music retail and performance, creating a community hub where musicians can discover instruments, learn new skills, and experience live music in one of Seattle's most music-friendly neighborhoods.
Historic note: Founded in 1979 by Ray and Sue Mooers, who began building harps and dulcimers in their basement. Moved to Fremont in 1982. In 2001, manufacturing moved to a separate facility while the retail store and school remained in Fremont. One of the oldest businesses in Fremont and a cornerstone of the Pacific Northwest acoustic music scene for over 40 years.
