Couth Buzzard Books & Café
Couth Buzzard Books & Café, affectionately known as "The Couth," is a beloved community institution at 8310 Greenwood Ave N that has been serving Seattle since 1988. This unique establishment seamlessly blends three distinct functions: used bookstore, café, and community arts space, creating a perfect home away from home atmosphere. The venue features an extraordinarily active events calendar with live music 5-7 times a week and 3-5 events daily, showcasing acoustic concerts in genres including folk, jazz, Celtic, Brazilian, singer-songwriter, blues, and classical music. Beyond music, The Couth hosts book readings, comedy shows, drum circles, Traditional Irish music sessions, and conversation groups in multiple languages. The venue embodies the spirit of "building community — one cup, one book, one note at a time," creating a comfortable chaos of literary and artistic elements where time seems to slow down and genuine human connection flourishes.
Historic note: Founded in 1992 by Theo and Kate Dzielak, who built it into a beloved community institution over three decades. Known as one of Seattle's quintessential neighborhood bookstore-cafes. Ownership transferred to lifelong Seattleites Tallis and Hilary Moore in June 2024, who reopened with expanded family-friendly programming.
