Climate Pledge Arena
Climate Pledge Arena is Seattle's premier sports and entertainment venue, home to the NHL Seattle Kraken and WNBA Seattle Storm. The state-of-the-art arena resulted from a massive $930 million renovation of the historic KeyArena, transforming the 1962 World's Fair venue into a modern 800,000-square-foot facility that opened in October 2021. With flexible seating capacities of 17,151 for hockey, 18,300 for basketball, and up to 17,200 for concerts, the arena sits below grade to preserve Seattle Center's skyline while featuring advanced sustainability systems that earned it the first-ever carbon-neutral certification for a sports venue. Located at Seattle Center with direct light rail access, it hosts major concerts, sporting events, and entertainment shows while maintaining the historic character of its surroundings.
Historic note: Originally built for the 1962 World's Fair as the Washington State Pavilion. Renamed Seattle Coliseum (1964), KeyArena (1995). Underwent a $1.15 billion privately-financed renovation by Oak View Group, reopening October 2021 as Climate Pledge Arena with a Foo Fighters concert. World's first net-zero carbon-certified arena. Amazon purchased naming rights in 2020 to promote The Climate Pledge initiative. The iconic roofline from the 1962 structure was preserved during the rebuild.
